DISCOUNTS IN BARNET PART 3
Applying Discounts at the Till
Many types of discounts will apply at till automatically for example: product, category or group-based discounts, products on a discount schedule or customer-based discounts if the customer’s account is entered.
Discounted Items show at the till with either a D beside them like this:
or if you would like to show the regular price and the discounted price you can select Advanced Setting: Show % discount
Using Discount Buttons
For full receipt-based discounts you can press the discount button anytime while entering the order at the till, at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of scanning items.
For item discounts first select the item you want to discount, and it will turn red to indicate it is selected, then press an item Discount button with a Discounted Selected Function.
Discount Rules & Prohibiting Discounts
There are many possible complex and interrelated discount settings. Many of them would be hard to decipher on your own and it is a good idea to ask Barnet Support for help if you want to restrict discounts in a unique/specific way.
Some commonly used settings are:
Combined Discounts
Discounts Limit to Cost
Discount Exempt Products
Flyer Discount Only
Restricting staff from Applying Discounts
Manager only at till
No Double Discounting. Allow only a single discount (the best discount) on a SKU at a time. Sometimes when a customer has a preprogrammed discount, they may decide to purchase an item on sale and you do not want them to get two discounts, just the best one. Or sometimes an item may be on sale, but you want to apply a receipt-based discount group to the rest of the receipt. For example, a customer chooses a wine that is on sale for 20% off along with another bottle of wine that is not on sale. The customer is a senior and you have a Seniors Discount button that applies 10% off to the whole receipt. Again, you want the customer to get only one discount on the sale product, just 20% off which is the better of the two discounts but still get 10% off on the other bottle. To restrict to single discount only, the best, these TWO settings need to be checked in Setup>Preferences>General>Advanced:
Discounts Limit to Cost
In BC it is illegal to sell liquor, lower than the wholesale cost. If you do not want any discount to allow a SKU to sell lower than cost, check this setting in Setup>Preferences>General>Advanced:
Make a Product Discount Exempt
In <Product Maintenance> on the Discount tab, check off “Discount exemptions” or use ‘Apply All’ in the grid view of Product Maintenance.
Make a Category Discount Exempt
There are two checkboxes in ‘Category’ that restrict any discounting. Either one can be used. In Pub model, only “Don’t use for discount” is available. In Liquor Store model, “Discount exempt” can be used instead and is available for ‘Apply All’ in Categories.
Flyer Discount Only
If you allow double discounting but want to restrict a specific SKU to only a programmed discount you can check off “Use for Flyers discount only” in <Product Maintenance> or use the grid view to ‘Apply All’ to multiple SKUs at once.
Restricting Staff from applying discounts in Staff Permissions
If a staff member should be able to freely use discount buttons at the till, check off ‘Discounts’ in Personnel settings. Unchecking ‘Discounts’ means a manager ID request window opens anytime this clerk tries to use a discount button.
If you want to restrict just one discount button for staff who are usually allowed to use most discount buttons, you can restrict any button—making it manager access only by entering ‘manager’ in the “Double” cell of that button setup.
Discount Report
The Discount Report can be found in Reports>Sales>Details>Discounts
This is a thorough report for sorting and filtering all discounts.
